Lilac Street Food Crawl - Marikina | Part 2

The sun was setting fast and our bellies were far from full (so far, we've only tried 2 places). We venture across the road and spot a short row on Rainbow Street.

Working up an appetite along Lilac St.

In case you missed it, here's a link to Part 1.

Lilac Street Food Crawl - Marikina | Part 1

There's a new foodie strip in Metro Manila that everybody's been talking about: Lilac Street in Marikina. This stretch of road is dotted with delightful food joints you don't usually find in malls. There was nothing to do one Saturday afternoon, so me and my sisters decided to do a Lilac Street food crawl.

1st Cebu City Mayor's River-Mountain Trail Run

Here's a fact: Cebu island is made up of 80% mountainous terrain. It's hard to imagine when you're in the urban area or hitting one of its famous beach coasts - the mountain backdrop simply rests there quietly. So, in an effort to push the province's hilly backyard into the spotlight, the provincial government, through the help of its different agencies, has cooked up a lovely treat for its running community.

Announcing The First Cebu City Mayor's River-Mountain Trail Run (Discovering the City's Natural Treasures) - happening on December 6, 2014!

*UPDATE: EVENT POSTPONED DUE TO TYPHOON RUBY/HAGUPIT.
NEW SCHEDULE IS ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2014*

1780: A Collective Of Philippine Heritage Products

Much of traveling involves purchases from local merchants. What we take home from our trips around the country - the pasalubong - reflects the local ingenuity in culinary or craftsmanship (or others) that the destination has to offer. The way to see it - pasalubong and souvenir shopping is a way to help out the community in your own little way.

Travel find: I'm a fan of handwoven stuff!

Not everyone has the luxury to visit the country's 17 regions; 80 provinces. Even so, there's a way to get a good taste of what these destinations have to offer.

Review: Bohol Coco Farm, Panglao, Bohol

Resort Review | Bohol Coco Farm
Panglao, Bohol

A pasta out of coconut meat?!? I just had to see (and taste) it for myself - Bohol Coco Farm's most popular dish from their organic menu.

Panglao Island had been elusive the past four times I've visited Bohol. As a first-timer, Alona Beach was the first choice. But after crunching the numbers on the budget, less popular options were considered.

Bohol Coco Farm is an off-beach backpacker type B&B. It features an in-house restaurant that serves self-grown organic food.

The New YMCA Manila Swimming Pool

One summer morning, I was in the vicinity of Manila City Hall. There beside SM Manila is a newly renovated YMCA. Decided to check out their pool, and I was blown away.

The old swimming pool was decent; but this new one is way better! New tiles, and more space

Ready for 2014: An AirAsia Zest Booking Frenzy

It's only October of '13 but I've already maxed out my bookings for the first quarter of 2014! Hey, it's never too early to draft travel plans for next year. And now that two of the best low-cost airlines have joined forces, I expect to visit more tempting destinations - both local and international - soon!

Yes, Air Asia + Zest Air = AirAsia Zest! It's our very own AirAsia in Manila (now flying from NAIA Terminal 4, no need to go to Clark)!

Review: Danasan Eco Adventure Park - Danao, Cebu

Not to be mistaken by its namesake in Bohol, Danao in Cebu also has something for adrenaline junkies and outdoor enthusiasts. Featuring the province's first cable wake park, this 130-ish hectare property is poised to be the region's ultimate adventure destination. A couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to visit the place with some friends.

Although only a fraction of the property has been developed at present, there's no such thing as idle time for Danao Eco Adventure Park's visitors.

Review: Amihan Del Mar Resort - Mabini, Batangas

Shiny glassy sea in Mabini, Batangas

"Would Travel for Beach".

These are probably the words written on me and my best friend's forehead when we went on an extemporaneous trip to the far end of Anilao in Mabini, Batangas.

We knew where we were going, for sure, as far as the resort name and commute directions are concerned.

Last Wild Place: Adventure Travel + Advocacy on TV

Four ordinary people embark on an adventure to explore the last remaining off-the-grid places around the Philippines. They will hike, swim, climb, dive, paddle - basically put themselves in great risks - to showcase the country's hidden natural beauty waiting outside commercial travel destinations.
At last, a new reality TV show that doesn't just focus on celebrity drama - The Last Wild Place.

5 Splashing Places in Metro Manila

The heat is on and what better way to cool off than to hit the many beaches and mountain resorts of the Philippines. I, myself, have been dreaming of inhaling the misty sea breeze and dipping in a basin filled by cascading water.

While it would be fun to splash around a natural body of water, not everybody in Metro Manila has the luxury of time (and budget) to arrange a trip out of town. But before you set up your inflatable pool, consider these refreshing city retreats:

New7Wonders Bid: Puerto Princesa Underground River

The voting period for the New7Wonders of Nature is nearing its end. In 15 days, 7 natural wonders around the world will be given the official title. The Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan is among the 28 finalists, and it is now upon us to cast our votes and put it to the top!

HOW TO VOTE:
1. Visit www.new7wonders.com/vote-2
2. Text PPUR to 2861
3. Phone vote (instructions here www.new7wonders.com/vote-by-phone)

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP) is home to a wealth of natural gifts - the 8.2 km Underground River is only one of them. It boasts of a rich ecosystem from land to sea (and undersea), whose forests are among the most diverse in Asia and waters considered to be the last frontier of the Philippines.

The Puerto Princesa Underground River is hidden under a distinguishing landmark, a limestone karst believed to be around 16-20 million years old. Water from the Cabayugan River is carried down Mt. Bloomfield, providing water to small farms and then passing through Mt. St. Paul as an underground river whose cave system is among the most complex in the world. This fully navigable river flows directly to the sea, a feature only a few underground rivers have.

Here is a short video about Puerto Princesa Underground River:

Watch live streaming video from ppurtv at livestream.com

Positioning our country as having one of the Seven Wonders of Nature will mean a lot for the people of Puerto Princesa, the Philippine tourism, and most importantly - the biodiversity conservation efforts in PPSRNP.
